Commissioner James "Jim" Gordon

Commissioner James Worthington "Jim" Gordon (ジェイムズ・ワージントン・“ジム”・ゴードン, Jeimuzu Wājinton "Jimu" Gōdon), is both a fictional character and tritagonist of the Marvelous DC series created by C. B. Cebulski and Jim Lee.

He is a police officer, a reluctant ally to Batman and the main contact for him on the force. Over the years, he worked with Batman, eventually in time forming a partnership between him and the GCPD and became Police Commissioner.

He has been equally tough on crime, and in the pursuit of making Gotham safe for all its people. As one of the incorrupt cops, He has dedicated his career to cleaning up the corruption in the GCPD, a goal he has come a long way towards accomplishing.

BiographyEdit

Police Commissioner James W. Gordon dedicated his career to cleaning up the corruption in the Gotham City police department, a goal he has come a long way towards accomplishing. He has been equally tough on crime, and in the pursuit of making Gotham City safe for all its citizens, Gordon has forged an uneasy alliance with Gotham's other top crime fighter, the mysterious vigilante known as Batman.

    • Peak Human Durability: When Riddler tortured Gordon with Une peine forte et dure, he was able to resist 50-350 pounds of pressure pressed against his ribs; however, Lee Thompkins noted that, as a healthy male adult, his ribs should be able to take about 450 pounds of pressure before they crack, which allowed him to survive falling from high up after trying to save the Balloonman. He also withstood a beating from Aaron Helzinger and the superhumanly strong Nathaniel Barnes, Mario Calvi and Bane, as well as survived being shot by Victor Zsasz twice, despite the latter being a hitman of the highest professional standards.

  • James Gordon first appeared in Detective Comics #27. (May 1939).
  • Although he never admits it outright, numerous instances imply that Gordon knows Batman's identity but refrains from pursuing any action due to how much the city needs the vigilante.
  • Gordon also knows that his daughter, Barbara Gordon, was the first Batgirl, however, it is unknown whether he knows she is now the superhero networker; Oracle, though it is assumed that he does. He often compares his daughter's time as Batgirl with the current actions of the Huntress.
  • During his retirement from the force, Gordon taught criminology at Gotham University.
  • James Gordon has a heart condition, which he contracted after a lifetime of cigarette smoking. He has since quit but occasionally relapses in times of stress or as an excuse to go to the top of the GCPD building.
  • 5:00 every morning, James Gordon takes a walk through Gotham. Gordon also took up practicing Tai Chi before the walk following his near-fatal shooting.
