Ginei Morioka

Ginei Morioka (森丘 銀影, Morioka Gin'ei), is both a fictional character and tritagonist from the Rosario + Resurrection series created by Akihisa Ikeda and Yasunori Mitsunaga. He is the president of the Newspaper Club, and a year senior to Tsukune.

He delegates most of the work to Tsukune and the gang. He is good-looking and a ladies' man, although he is heavily perverted, which causes the Newspaper Club girls to keep their distance from him, as well as warn others of his behavior.

His monster form is a werewolf. As a werewolf, his powers reach its highest point when the full moon shines. Under a full moon, his powers dramatically rivals vampires and werecats, the werewolf's natural enemies and his speed exceeds theirs.

"Maybe we really are crazy... but I'm sorry, I can't lose my friends."

—Ginei Morioka.

Background[]

Personality[]

To look at him, one would think Ginei Morioka is a rather charming fellow. However, Ginei is rather girl-crazy almost to the point of being a total high-class pervert. At first, he was extremely attracted to Moka Akashiya and considered Tsukune Aono a rival for her affections. In the second part of Rosario + Vampire, Gin now seems to be attracted to Kurumu Kurono, mostly because of her G-cup breast size as he is often seen groping her whenever they meet. Gin also seems to have a long list of former girlfriends. Though Gin is the club president, he is a very lazy one, using to be normally absent and tending to leave all the work to his subordinates.

Despite his shallow and selfish behavior, Ginei is actually a quite caring person and a good friend. In his first year, however, he used to be extremely bearish and violent, only interested in fight. Because of this, he was known as "Mad Dog" Morioka. He slowly changed his mind thanks to San Otonashi, a graduate of Yōkai and the former newspaper club president. In the manga, he is shown to have feelings for San. During the Hong Kong journey he proved to really care about Kurumu too, looking after her while she was sick and trying to comfort the crying succubus after she realized Tsukune's true feelings towards Moka; in actuality, Gin felt quite bad for Kurumu.

Nevertheless, his loyalty is sincere and he values his comrades more than anything else, and is not above enduring excruciating pain, nor resorting to deadly force, for their sake. In conjunction with his werewolf attributes, this makes Gin both a great ally and a fearsome adversary.

Abilities and Powers[]

Powers[]

  • Lycanthropy: The ability to transform into a wolf-like creature, at his will. When transformed, he gains the traits of werewolves, most obvious being ability to change into a wolf-like creature with the natural characteristics inherent to both wolves and humans, including senses, stamina, etc. In addition werewolves in Rosario + Vampire are often attributed speed far beyond those of vampires and they also have them even in their untransformed form.
    • Immense Speed: As a werewolf the monster known for their speed, when a full moon shines brightly, his abilities are heightened to the point where his speed exceeds even Moka in her super-vampire state that it forced her into complete defense and dodge everyone of Kokoa's rapier attacks where Ginei stated she was only attacking the tombstones. While werewolves in general are stated to have their power wax and wane with the lunar cycle, it is unknown if all werewolves receive this much of an increase. Regardless, Ginei is still exceptionally fast, even when the moon is not full, able to create several after-image and land dozens of blows in a single pass against Kuyō as the student police was unable to react. And even while in human form, he has enough mobility to be able to sneak up on most people (which he conveniently uses to grope up the breasts of well-endowed women like Kurumu), and repeatedly dodge all of Haiji's punches as well as knocking off the speaker from Tsubaki's hand before the Fairy Tale member could apply the music.
    • Enhanced Strength: Ginei has demonstrated to have strength far beyond those of humans and many other creatures in the series, almost as strong as Moka. He can knock out several monsters way bigger than he with a single blow even in his human form. His strength also extends into the muscles of his legs, allowing him to leap, from a crouch, several feet into the air.
    • Immense Agility: Ginei's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are far beyond the natural physical limits of even the finest human athlete. When combined with his incredible speed, Ginei can deal out damage by making rapid jumps and aerial movements that can take out a multitude of Shuzen vampires before they can react.
    • Immense Reflexes: Ginei's reflexes are similarly enhanced and are roughly twice as fast as those of the vampires. Using his speed and his reflexes he can dodge and block any attack from Moka.
    • Enhanced Stamina: The Werewolf's musculature produces less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the musculature of an ordinary human, granting him superhuman levels of stamina. He can exert himself at peak capacity for several hours before fatigue begins to impair him. Ginei was able to land many attacks on the Shuzen vampires in tandem with Haiji by doing continuous high-speed maneuvers without tiring at all.
    • Enhanced Durability: The tissues of his body are considerably harder and more resistant to physical injury than those of an ordinary human. Ginei is capable of withstanding great impact forces, falls from great heights, and exposure to temperature without dying. Ginei later showed the ability to withstand multiple impalement from a mutating Shuzen vampire's tentacles by Gyokuro's will only to reappear in the final battle against Alucard unharmed.
    • Enhanced Senses: Ginei has superhumanly the acute senses of sight, smell, and hearing similar to those of an actual wolf. He can see objects or people in total darkness as any other wolf as well.
    • Physical Endurance: He has strong toughness, it has been said that alpha individuals can fight for days without tiring. Even low-level individuals can take significant damage before going down.
    • Claws and Fangs: The Werewolf's claws and teeth are extremely sharp and tough, enabling him to rend through a variety of substances including fabric, wood, cinder block, and even some metals.
    • Regenerative Healing Factor: As a werewolf, he is capable of regenerating damaged with much greater speed and efficiency than an ordinary human. However, his healing ability gets weakened severely if they don't eat.
    • Lunacy: As is already mentioned above, his powers increases and decreases with the moon phases. When there is full moon he is at his peak capacity.
    • Transformation: He can even transform isolated parts of his body even during the day, such as his arms, ears and tail.

Abilities[]

  • Expert Hand-to-Hand Combatant: He is an excellent fighter, although he has had no formal training. He was able to defeat the Headquarters of Fairy Tale's 7th Division with the help of Haiji Miyamoto during the day. He also has some expertise in dealing with occult and supernatural forces. He is widely regarded as one of the strongest top-tier monster at the school by the other students, earning him the name of "Mad Dog Morioka" as shown by defeated the entire group of monster students as Ginei was barely even injured, but prefers to keep out of the limelight. He is also the one who trained Kurumu and Mizore so they can fight against Moka in close combat.
  • Master Photographer: Ginei is a very skilled photographer as he was able to take several pictures of half-naked girls from different locations.
  • Expert Spy: Ginei is very good at looking at girls in the lockeroom, without getting caught.
  • Peerless Womanizer: He is a girls conqueror, who has several ex-girlfriends. He is also well-versed in the fine art of groping girls' "assets", and has incapacitated both Kurumu and Mizore at the same time in this manner.
  • Teamworker: When partnered up with Haiji, his overall speed compliments the crow tengu's strength and power over the wind. In their human forms, the duo displayed enough skill to overwhelm an entire division of fairy tale, minus the division's leader. Later, when fighting the Shuzen Vampire army, the duo showed their true chemistry and tactics, using Gin's sheer speed to knock down their foes and force the enemy into gathering into a single spot in an attempt to predict his movements by covering each others backs, in a sense corralling them like a sheep dog, thus landing them directly in the line of Haiji's gale fist and eliminating the entire group at once.

Etymology[]

  • His name Ginei (銀影) could be translated as "silver shadow" and his last name Morioka (森丘) could be translated as "forest hill" (森 mori: means forest or wood and 丘 oka: hill).
  • He is often referred to as "Gin" (or 銀) that means "silver" which is a tad bit ironic considering "silver" is usually the main weakness of Werewolves.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • When he insulted the girl who was obsessed with him, though he was being verbally harsh, he was likely telling her, "Move on from me, it is not worth acting this badly for someone like me."
  • It is shown he has a habit of making wolf and animal related puns about himself and others.
  • In the Manga Epilogue, Ginei is shown to have begun working at the Inn San Otonashi lives and is employed at. Ironically, his and San's romantic relationship isn't simply platonic, it's still at kindergarten level.
  • It is said that it was Kurumu Kurono who gave Gin a final push to go working there, as he turns very shy when he has to deal with his feelings for San Otonashi; this could mean he and Kurumu have become good friends after events in Hong Kong.
  • According to separate statements from Kokoa Shuzen and Kurumu Kurono in the English version of of the manga, Gin has a "low, growly voice" with a "thick accent". It is also said that he speaks in an Osakan accent.
