Caulifla (カリフラ, Karifura), is both a fictional character and tritagonist from the Dragon Naruto series created by Akira Toriyama and Masashi Kishimoto. She is a Saiyan of 6th Universe, the younger sister of Renso and crime boss leader of Saiyan punks and criminals.

She participated in Grand Zeno's Tournament of Power as a member of Team Universe 6. From Cabba's and Renso's conversation, it is found out that both she and Cabba have known each other long time ago.

Biography

Caulifla leads group of Saiyan punks in Planet Sadala. Much like the Saiyans in Universe 7, she acts more naturally aggressive and is prideful. She joins the Tournament of Power as a representative of Universe 6 in order to get stronger along with reaching strength beyond that of a Super Saiyan.

Appearance

Caulifla is a short girl (slightly taller than Cabba) of slender build and fair complexion. She wears a low cut magenta tube top, low-set purple harem pants, long dark grey wristbands, and a pair of pointy dark grey shoes. Her hair is long, wild, and spiky. Caulifla's eyes are narrow yet big, with large black pupils, as well as thin eyebrows.

Background

Caulifla appears to be born around the same time as her friends Cabba and Kale. She was born in the planet Sadala, an impoverished kingdom ruled under King Sadala. Overtime, her track record would get her so famous that she was never beaten in a fight even once in her life. At some point, she started her own gang that operates in a specific zone in Sadala. Unknown to many in the defense force, her gang actually steal from the king to give to the poor children and people in general that live in Sadala. At some point in her early life, Caulifla found Kale lost by a roadside and took her in and the two of them quickly became life-long best friends and sisters-in-arms.

Personality

As noted by her brother, she has a very punkish attitude and is also recognized as a tomboy, to which she shows a strong contrast to the rest of her race, acting more akin to the Universe 7 Saiyans. Caulifla is shown to be very lazy if not self-absorbed as she initially refused to join the Tournament of Power even when learning her universe's or her own existence were on the line. It took Cabba telling her about the Super Saiyan form as well as about being able to achieve greater heights in her strength to make her agree, showing her desire to become stronger.

She also got angry at Cabba for his attempts at provoking her, even to have her obtain the Super Saiyan form. After obtaining the Super Saiyan transformation, Caulifla seemed grateful for Cabba teaching her. To which, she showed a new drive, eager to fight in the Tournament of Power. In her Super Saiyan form, her personality remains unchanged whatsoever, due to her using another method (concentrating chakra ki to her back) in order to transform.

Despite her tomboyish attitude, Caulifla cares about others, especially her protégée, Kale, whom she treats like a younger sister. When Cabba attempts to get Kale to transform and the latter starts crying, Caulifla is angered by this and tells Cabba to stop. She was also the only one able to get Kale to calm down after Kale finally transformed and tried to kill Cabba. She has a very close, sibling-like relationship with Cabba and thanks to the latter she was able to transform into Super Saiyan during their training.

However, in the manga, Caulifla doesn't seem to show any special attachment to Kale and is treated like just another member of her gang with the only reason why she is recruited in this version is due to Cabba suggesting to do so after seeing her potential. She even doubted her abilities when she is recruited for the tournament with Caulifla's response to this is for Kale to treat it like some sort of vacation.

During her meeting with Goku and Vegeta at the Tournament of Power, she is shown to be very arrogant and cocky towards them and says that she came to see the strongest fighters of all universes, and Goku notes that she is just like him in that sense. Caulifla also has somewhat of a cocky attitude and displayed this when she saw Goku and Vegeta become shocked at the overwhelming power of the Universe 11 warriors by saying that "Universe 7's warriors were nothing to worry about if they're afraid of such wimps". This opinion soon changes after she witnesses them using Super Saiyan Blue, a form she had never seen before which caught her immediate interest. While she questioned Goku about it, she referred to him as an old man and promised to beat him up as gratitude, showing disrespect to him. She also shows no respect for Champa, as she told him to shut up when he screamed at her from the stands when she was fighting Goku the second time.

However, like the Saiyans of Universe 7, she displays a love for getting stronger which was shown after she heard there were other Super Saiyan forms. Also, she showed a love for battle as shown when she enjoyed her match with Goku which caused her to get so caught up that she ignored Kale. This love is further amplified in her rematch with Goku, one which she states, and still hopes to obtain Super Saiyan 3 and Super Saiyan Blue, in which after Goku promised to teach the Super Saiyan 3 to her, she was seen to be grateful, still promising to obtain the Super Saiyan Blue and beat him, which Goku looks forward to, alongside seeing her power grow. During her second fight with Goku, Caulifla was shown to have gained some respect for the much older Saiyan, citing she will continue to go further beyond, a feat Goku aims to see.

During the Tournament of Power after being rescued by Hit's Time-Skip ability, Caulifla is shown to be very respectful to the assassin; in fact, Hit is the only person to date not to receive any rude treatment from her. She also has great confidence in Hit's abilities when he faces off against the Universe 11 fighter Dyspo and was willing to return him the favor when Dyspo was seemingly about to defeat him.

Caulifla is shown to be a sore loser after she and Kale (as Kefla) were eliminated by Goku, promising to give the older Saiyan a wallop someday. However, she still accepted her defeat in the end.

Attacks

• Flight - The ability to take flight through the manipulation of chakra ki.
• Chakra Ki Blast - The most basic form of energy wave. Caulifla's chakra ki attacks seem to have a unique reddish flame detailing.
• Chakra Ki Sense - The ability to sense the energy of other beings. Caulifla demonstrated she has this ability after sensing Jiren's power rising along with Kale.
• Continuous Energy Bullet - A combination of many energy waves fired at a very rapid rate.
• Energy Fist (エネルギーフィスト) - Caulifla fires a rapid barrage of chakra ki blasts at her opponen from her fists, then, using the smokescreen for cover, charges at them to deliver a powerful punch with her fist enveloped in chakra ki. • Crush Cannon - A move in which Caulifla launches several of her signature red energy blasts at the opponent in rapid succession.
• Burst of Energy - Caulifla's special move, she fires a stream of powerful red chakra ki wave at her opponent. This technique was named and first appeared in Dragon Naruto Z: Dokkan Battle, where it is mistakenly colored orange.
  • Gigantic Blast - Caulifla and Kale in their transformed states combine their green and red Energy Blasts similar to the Final Kamehameha.
• Unnamed Kamehameha-like Technique - Caulifla uses a technique similar to the iconic attack, only with her fingers pointed outwards like Gogeta's Atomic Kamehameha.

Transformations

Super Saiyan

Main article: Super Saiyan

Caulifla attains this transformation during her lesson with Cabba. Showing an instinctual nature for it, she is able to do so without a strong emotion, unlike most initial Super Saiyan transformations. Instead, she attained it by concentrating her energy into the part of the back between the shoulder blades. Caulifla is able to maintain the form after only two attempts. Because she obtained this form without emotional build-up, it is likely that she does not suffer from any strain mentally or physical from using this form. As such, she can access this form's full power and maintain it for longer durations. Unlike most Saiyans, her hair remains unchanged in style while in this form.

Ultra Super Saiyan

Caulifla first demonstrates this form while challenging Goku to a fight in the Tournament of Power. In this form, Caulifla's hair remains the same as a Super Saiyan, but her body becomes considerably taller and her frame much bulkier. Caulifla grows drastically more powerful, but as a detriment, she is severely slowed down due to sacrificing her speed for power. When Goku easily defeats her, he informs her about the drawbacks of the form, thus reverting to regular Super Saiyan.

Super Saiyan 2

Caulifla attains this transformation shortly after achieving Super Saiyan for the first time on Sadala, during her battle against Kale in an attempt to reflect the latter's energy blast. Similar to her first form, Caulifla apparently obtained this form instinctively. In this form, her hair completely spikes up, standing above her shoulders much like Gohan's in his Super Saiyan 2 form as a child against Cell, and three bangs appear, similar to Goku's Super Saiyan 2 form.

At the Tournament of Power, Caulifla tells Goku that she had unlocked the form but has been unable to transform into a Super Saiyan 2 by her own free will after doing so spontaneously, but is soon able to do so with Goku's assistance. Goku suggests that Caulifla should concentrate on mastering her Super Saiyan 2 form before going any higher. During their second fight, Goku, eager to see Caulifla's potential growth, began testing her with various stunts to sharpen her instincts and improve her battle method. Once she adapted enough, Goku showed her how to strengthen Super Saiyan 2, which she quickly reciprocated.

Tuffleized

Main article: Tuffleization and Oren

Caulifla assumes this form after Oren takes control of her body. Her hair turns white and red lines travel from her forehead to her eyebrows and from her mouth to her chin.

Infected

Main article: Tuffle Parasites and Super Saiyan

In Super Dragon Naruto Heroes, Oren and Kamin infected the Saiyans of Universe 6 with Tuffle Parasites. Caulifla became one of them. She fights in Super Saiyan form.

Fusions

Kefla

Kefla (ケフラ, Kefura) is the product of a Potara Fusion between Caulifla and Kale. With the combined might of both Saiyans amplified to such immense levels, Kefla is easily one of the most powerful beings in Dragon Naruto franchise. As it's not a fusion involving a Kai, the fusion lasts only 1 hour at most, rather than being permanent. Originally, she was formed in desperation to defeat Goku, who was overwhelming the pair in his Super Saiyan God form. While in base form, this fusion had a great advantage against a worn out Super Saiyan God Goku.

• Potara: Earrings worn by Supreme Kais and their apprentices. Despite being worn so casually, they have incredible properties, allowing two individuals to fuse or permitting the wearer to use the Time Rings.

Etymology

• Like all full-blooded Saiyans, Caulifla's name is a pun on a vegetable, that being a cauliflower. Cauliflower also belongs to the same plant group as Kale, her subordinate.

Notes & Trivia

• Caulifla is the first female Saiyan to become a Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 2 in the mainstream Dragon Naruto series.
  • She is also the first female Saiyan to achieve Ultra Super Saiyan as well as the first Saiyan in 6th Universe to achieve this form. Interestingly, she is the first Saiyan to achieve this form after attaining the Super Saiyan 2 form which is superior to Ultra Super Saiyan.
  • Caulifla is also the first Saiyan in 6th Universe to achieve Super Saiyan 2.
• Caulifla's hair in both her base form and Super Saiyan form resembles Broly's hair in his Legendary Super Saiyan form.
• Her having greater potential than her elder brother is similar to Goku surpassing Raditz. Additionally her relationship with Renso is the opposite of Goku's relationship with Raditz whom is evil and doesn't approve of Goku's rejection of their race's brutal Saiyan ways typical of 7th Universe Saiyans, while Renso was part of the Sadala Defense Force which fights evil with his younger sister Caulifla being a criminal gang leader and behaves in a manner similar to 7th Universe Saiyans, behavior that is considered delinquent by the general Saiyan population though Renso acknowledges his sister's strength and Caulifla herself is a relatively decent person despite her criminal behavior.
• Caulifla has similarities to Paragus:
  • They both try to control Kale and Broly.
  • They both try to prevent Kale and Broly from becoming completely insane after witnessing their transformation into the Legendary Super Saiyan.
  • Without Caulifla, Kale would lose control of her form like when Broly goes berserk without Paragus and his devices.
