Lord Obsidian

Sgt. Breaker Night (ブレイカー・ナイト, Bureikā Naito), also known as "Lord Obsidian" (ロード・オブシディアン, Rōdo Obushidian), is a fictional character and antagonist of the Super Kingdom Bros.'s Mega-Bots series created by Akira Kitamura and Rin Horuma.

He is a human supremacist who wants to destroy human/robot relations by persuading some robots into attacking humans. When out in public, he gives frequent anti-robot rallies where he believes that humans and robots can't be lived together.

In the past, Sgt. Night took part in a long-forgotten conflict between humans and robots called the Hard Wars. He plans to restart the human-robot war that took place during the Hard Age, using rouge robots to do his dirty work while he remains undetected.

"Tell me, Thomas, if you say the word unity enough, do you think it will actually be the truth?"

—Sgt. Night, to Dr. Light.

As Sgt. Breaker Night[]

Sgt. Night is a tall human with spiky black hair, a beard, and a dark gray outfit with red trim. He has a mechanical right arm.

As Lord Obsidian[]

As Lord Obsidian, he has black spiky armor with his facial hair molded onto it, with jet blades (that can transform into laser guns) on his back and arms. His right arm is red, just like Sgt. Night's normal prosthetic arm.

Sgt. Night is cold, bold, defiant, and direct, but does manage a certain charm – until he's angry, then he is commanding and the militaristic barking of orders begins. He wants revenge on a world he believes betrayed him, most especially the Light family, and Mega Man. He doesn't believe that humans and robots can coexist, as he views robots as tools and considers humans superior as they created robots.

A smooth but direct villain, Night is charismatic enough to persuade followers and manipulate robot minions without the need for force. However, at the drop of a hat he changes: a would-be emperor. He knows loss and wears it like a cold suit of armor.

As Lord Obsidian, he becomes the opposite of his public persona: a robot supremacist who seeks to have humanity removed from Silicon City, though is unafraid to take over other robots for his plans or harm robots that protect humans like Mega Man.

In his defeat, his true views are unveiled: a human supremacist willing to manipulate and lie for his end goal of turning every robot into subservient blank slates with the Mega Key, and states that Dr. Light's peace made humans weak.

Abilities and Powers[]

  • Leadership: Having previously been a military commander during the Hard Age, BreakerNight has a fair amount of leadership experience, and translates this towards directing his Robots, rouge Medabots, Mavericks, Robot Masters.
  • Manipulation: Breaker is a skilled public speaker and highly charismatic individual who is talented at luring people to his side without the need for force. He is particularly good at playing people's personal gripes and struggles to his advantage, convincing people frustrated by robot attacks/malfunctions that they can't be trusted as a whole, and convincing ChemistryMan and GutsMan to join him by taking advantage of them during their weakest moments.

  • Lord Obsidian Armor: While using the persona of Lord Obsidian, Breaker gains a number of different abilities thanks to the additions provided to his armor:
    • Enhanced strength and durability: Breaker possesses greater strength and endurance than he does normally, allowing him to easily toss MegaMan around, blow off blasts from the Mega Buster and even survive electrocution via the latter's replication of ElecMan's powers.
    • Various tools and weaponry: Breaker carries around a vast set of equipment to assist him in combat, including a mace mounted to his left hand, powerful bombs that appear to be able to levitate and stick to surfaces, smoke bombs, and, most notably, a pair of guns which fire powerful blasts capable of draining robots of their energy and damaging their systems.
    • Technopathy: Breaker is capable of manipulating machines using his suit, as he hacked into the monitors at the unity rally and was able to take control of Suna's Suna-copter after it stole his gun.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • It is implied that Sgt. Night knows MegaMan's secret identity; when Aki runs into Night, he taunts Aki by smugly asking if his "extracurriculars" have been keeping him up at night. It is unknown how he came across the knowledge of MegaMan's identity.
    • Sgt. Night's knowledge of MegaMan's identity is even further implied, where he announces that he will destroy MegaMan while looking at a picture of Aki.
  • He is similar to Xander Payne. Like Xander, Night hates robots and believes humans to be superior, yet he also has a robotic arm.
    • His Lord Obsidian identity is based upon King, the robot revolutionist, though King reformed after being defeated while Sgt. Night is unrepentantly evil.
    • His flail is very similar to KnightMan's Special Weapon, the Knight Crusher.
  • He speaks with a Southern accent.
